Robert De Niro hides behind two newspapers as he leaves divorce court

Robert De Niro returned to New York divorce court on Thursday and left in a huff. The 75-year-old actor tried to evade the press by hiding his face with two newspapers.

Robert De Niro returned to New York divorce court on Thursday and left in a huff, covering his face with two newspapers to avoid being seen.

The 75-year-old actor dodged reporters and photographers at all costs by covering his face with his morning papers and made quite the scene as he headed out to meet his driver.

When his driver wasn't waiting for him at the back of the court house, he exploded with anger in a fiery, profanity-laced tirade.

'He’s in the wrong spot. I’m standing right where he dropped me off. What the f**k!' he said while on the phone to his driver, still armed with his newspapers.

'I don’t care if they chase you away… F**k. What’s the matter with you? Where are you?... This is ridiculous!' he said raising his voice before ending the call.

By contrast, the morning started off on a calm note for the Oscar winner. He was spotted entering Manhattan Supreme Court Thursday morning with his glasses on and a paper in hand.

His lawyers met to continue to fight with his estranged wife of 21 years Grace Hightower, 63, for custody of their seven-year-old daughter Helen Grace.

The divorce hearing itself seemed to go well as De Niro and Hightower's lawyers met for 30 minutes behind closed doors.

The pair avoided each other's glances as they sat apart in court, preoccupying themselves by flipping through newspapers.

De Niro looked for a comfortable ensemble of a navy polo, black pants and a black sweater.

He spoke animatedly with his lawyers after they emerged from the judge's chambers at the end of the meeting. His attorneys then reconvened for a private conference, according to Page Six.

The Oscar winner and Hightower also appeared in court last month on January 29 in a three-hour long divorce hearing.

Following that meeting, Justice Matthew Cooper said that although De Niro and Hightower had made 'some progress on some difficult issues', there were still 'particulars' of the settlement they needed to work out.

Cooper added that the couple must also exchange statements of their net worth.

The two notably kept their distance at that hearing too, with each one sitting at opposite ends of the courtroom.  De Niro read a newspaper as Hightower kept herself busy by reading a book during the hearing, as their lawyers discussed the divorce.

De Niro and Hightower filed for divorce in December and went to great lengths to keep it private, filing the case under an 'Anonymous v. Anonymous' caption.

Anonymous filings are not given lightly in the district. A judge granted the Oscar winner's request for the nameless paperwork before Christmas.

De Niro reportedly asked for visitation with his daughter Helen Grace, who they had via surrogate, on the same day he filed for divorce.

The actor confirmed the couple's split in November, saying he honored Grace as a 'wonderful mother'.

'Grace and I have two beautiful children together. We are entering a period of transition in our relationship which is a difficult but constructive process,' he said in a statement.

'I honor Grace as a wonderful mother and ask for privacy and respect from all as we proceed to develop our roles as partners in parenting.'

This isn't the first time that the couple have tried to go separate ways.

De Niro first filed for divorce from Hightower in 1999, just two years after they tied the knot.

Back then, they quarreled over custody of their now adult son Elliot, 20, before making amends.
